5 Signs you battle with bitterness | 5 SEÑALES DE QUE USTED LUCHA CON LA AMARGURA

Have you been betrayed by someone you trusted? Maybe your spouse broke a promise. Family or friends could have badly let you down. Perhaps it was at work or at church.

There is something in human nature that rightly expects fairness. So when you have been wronged, the sense of injustice is awful. It can eat you up on the inside.

The Other Side Of Injustice

Lamentations 1:3 describes the pain: “Judah has been led away into captivity, oppressed with cruel slavery… Her enemies have chased her down, and she has nowhere to turn.”

The people were broken and betrayed, they were cruelly enslaved. The next verse describes the outcome of such terrible injustice: “…she is in bitterness.” (Lam 1:4b)

Pain alone is hard. When it is mixed with injustice, it can be unbearable. If you have been wronged, the devil wants to multiply your pain by making you bitter.

The Cruel Impact Of Bitterness

Acts 8:23 says that bitterness poisons. Hebrews 12:15b states, “…Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”

No wonder the enemy wants us to become bitter; it poisons, causes trouble in our lives and then defiles those closest to us.

Jeremiah 17:9b explains that the human heart is a mystery. We think we know what’s inside, but we don’t: “…Who can know [perceive, understand, be acquainted] with his own heart?”

Bitterness is a root (see Hebrews 12:15) so when we are bitter, we get stuck in what happened. And Job 10:1 says “…I give free course to my complaint, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.”

5 Signs You Battle With Bitterness

  1. You rehearse what happened
  2. You keep retelling the story
  3. You still feel wronged
  4. You spy on the one who wronged you
  5. You secretly gloat when they struggle (& don’t like it when they succeed)

There is another big problem. Bitterness can cause us to fall short of the favour of God (see Hebrews 12:15). The person who hurt you is probably enjoying life. It’s time to be free from the pain of the past.

Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted compassionate, understanding, forgiving one another [readily & freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.”

Picture the person who hurt you. Tell the Lord what they did and how it made you feel, then forgive them. As you forgive, be specific, expressing forgiveness for every action or word that hurt. Then ask the Lord to bless them.

When the burden of bitterness gas lifted, you will enjoy new freedom and peace. Watch my message on this topic here, it will help you break free. If you enjoyed this blog, please hit the heart button at the top and share a comment below.
