7 Signs You’re An Internalizer | 7 señales que muestran que internalizas

By 9th March 2022 February 13th, 2024 Uncategorised

Emotion is a physical experience at our core. That is how we were designed from the start. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve will have experienced joy, excitement, peace, wonder and so much more! They were fully alive.

When the fall came, new emotions will have flooded their souls. They will have felt the weight of shame and the heaviness of sadness. I am sure they were angry with the serpent. No doubt they knew the vacuum of loneliness and the helplessness of regret.

I don’t know anyone who enjoys negative emotion so the temptation (even from the start) will have been to subdue or bury them. I believe that countless generations before us have perfected the dark art of internalization.

Divine Design

Your heart is meant to be a spring. John 7:38 says: “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  Your soul should flow with love, joy and excitement. But if you bottle feelings, your soul will stagnate. You will often feel weighed down or subdued.

It is easy to think that this is a personality issue: some people gush, and others hold back, but we were all made in the image of God who is a Master at expressing emotion.

7 Signs You’re An Internalizer

Internalization is bad for your health. It negatively impacts relationships and can create a barrier to your fellowship with God. Please ask the Lord to do a fresh work. Out the other side, you will experience new freedom & joy.

If you can relate to two or more of these signs, it is time to ask the Holy Spirit to take you on a journey to restoration and to help you develop new habits.

  1. You easily get angry or frustrated
  2. You see weeping as weakness
  3. When you’re hurt, you push down pain
  4. You feel detached from the events of your past
  5. You’re often down or discouraged
  6. If you do cry, it is either just a trickle or it bursts out
  7. While growing up, you were told to dry up or stop crying

 The Way Out

The Bible tells us to share our innermost issues with the Lord in prayer: “Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord.” (Lam 2:19b). When you pour out your heart to a friend, you tell them what has been weighing you down. You share your secrets.

That is what we need to do with God on a regular basis. When you talk to the Lord, it will start to unlock hidden hurt that has been weighing you down. As you say what you never said (because you felt you couldn’t), you release pain in God’s presence.

Once you have started to release the emotion of the past, it is time to ask the Lord to help you to create new habits. The long term liberty will be transformational.

If you realize you often internalize, I invite you to join my new 5 week zoom course Unblocking Your Emotions. You can watch live or later. We start this Tuesday 15th March. If you enjoyed this blog, please hit the heart button at the top!

  5. Muy a menudo te sientes bajo y desalentado
