Have you been battling repeated delays? Maybe you felt certain you were about to get your breakthrough, then your hopes drifted away again. Perhaps you feel like your promises are almost out of reach.
Have you been waiting and waiting, wondering when God is going to come through? All too often, we think we are waiting on God when actually, He is waiting for us.
I want to share 4 reasons why you may be facing repeated delays. If you deal with these issues, you may be surprised just how quickly your prayers are answered.
1. Disappointment
Perhaps you were longing for something to happen and then your dreams were dashed. Disappointment is awful. But because it is common, we often underestimate its impact.
Hebrews 11: 1 says that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for…” In other words, just as water makes ice, so hope creates faith. Of course, we all know that we need faith to lay hold of our promises, but we now know we need hope to have real faith.
The problem is that disappointment crushes hope. It’s impossible to be saddened by disappointment and yet filled with hope. Also, unresolved disappointment can cause you to lower your expectations and Proverbs 23:18 makes it clear that, to a large extent, we get what we expect.
2. Doubt
Do you doubt yourself? Do you struggle to believe that you have what it takes to do the things that are on your heart? Hebrews 10:35 says, “Do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.”
You and I need to be confident in order for us to step into our new season. We need to believe in God, but dare I say, that’s not enough? We need to believe in ourselves as well.
The 10 spies who went to the Promised Land had seen God do mighty miracles. They had seen Him turn rivers into blood, protect their people from frogs when their neighbours were infested and they walked through the sea on dry land.
They believed in God, but they did not believe in themselves and as a result, they told the children of Israel that they were not capable of defeating the inhabitants of the land.
3. Discontent
This is a subtle but serious cause of delays. Discontent is best defined as a grumpy feeling inside when others are blessed and we are not. It is a dissatisfaction with what we have.
Discontent keeps our eyes on the blessings of others and on the shortcomings of our own lives. The Bible is clear. Where we fix our gaze and our attention determines what we inherit. God told Abraham that He would inherit all the land that he could see. If we are focusing on lack or on others, it will hold us back.
4. Dim self-image
Your view of yourself affects your whole life. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinks in his heart so is he.” If you think you don’t deserve to be blessed, it could hold back the goodness of God. If you feel like others are better than you, it could delay your promotion.
Numbers 13:33 reports what the 10 spies who doubted themselves said: “We saw giants & we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” When you see yourself as small, you unwittingly project that image to the world around you too.

¿Ha estado luchando contra repetidos retrasos? Tal vez se sintió seguro de que estaba a punto de lograr un gran avance, pero luego sus esperanzas se desvanecieron nuevamente. Quizás siente que sus promesas están casi fuera de su alcance.
¿Ha estado esperando y esperando, preguntándose cuándo vendrá Dios? Con demasiada frecuencia pensamos que estamos esperando en Dios cuando en realidad Él nos está esperando.
Quiero compartir 4 razones por las que puede enfrentar repetidos retrasos. Si se enfrenta a estos problemas, se sorprenderá de lo rápido que se responden sus oraciones.
1. Decepción
Quizás anhelaba que sucediera algo y entonces sus sueños se desvanecieron. La decepción es terrible. Pero como es común, a menudo subestimamos su impacto.
Hebreos 11:1 dice que “La fe es la sustancia de lo que se espera…” En otras palabras, así como el agua forma hielo, así la esperanza crea fe. Por supuesto, todos sabemos que necesitamos fe para hacer realidad nuestras promesas, pero ahora sabemos que necesitamos esperanza para tener fe verdadera.
El problema es que la decepción aplasta la esperanza. Es imposible entristecerse por la decepción y, al mismo tiempo, estar lleno de esperanza. Además, una decepción no resuelta puede hacer que baje sus expectativas y Proverbios 23:18 deja claro que, en gran medida, obtenemos lo que esperamos.
2. Duda
¿Duda de si mismo? ¿Le cuesta creer que tiene lo necesario para realizar las cosas que están en su corazón? Hebreos 10:35 dice: “No perdáis vuestra confianza, que tiene gran recompensa”.
Usted y yo debemos tener confianza para poder entrar en nuestra nueva temporada. Necesitamos creer en Dios, pero ¿me atrevo a decir que eso no es suficiente? También debemos creer en nosotros mismos.
Los 10 espías que fueron a la Tierra Prometida habían visto a Dios hacer milagros poderosos. Le habían parecido convertir los ríos en sangre, proteger a su gente de las ranas cuando sus vecinos estaban infestados, y caminaron por el mar en tierra firme.
Creyeron en Dios, pero no creyeron en sí mismos y como resultado, les dijeron a los hijos de Israel que no eran capaces de derrotar a los habitantes de la tierra.
3. Descontento
Ésta es una causa sutil pero grave de retrasos. El descontento se define mejor como un sentimiento de mal humor interior cuando otros son bendecidos y nosotros no. Es una insatisfacción con lo que tenemos.
El descontento mantiene nuestros ojos puestos en las bendiciones de los demás y en las deficiencias de nuestras propias vidas. La Biblia es clara. Dónde fijamos nuestra mirada y nuestra atención determina lo que heredamos. Dios le dijo an Abraham que heredaría toda la tierra que pudiera ver. Si nos centramos en la carencia o en los demás, eso nos frenará.
4. Autoimagen Débil
La visión que tiene de si mismo afecta toda su vida. Proverbios 23:7 dice: “Cual es su pensamiento en su corazón, tal es él”. Si cree que no merece ser bendecido, eso podría frenar la bondad de Dios. Si siente que los demás son mejores que usted, podría retrasar su ascenso.
Números 13:33 relata lo que dijeron los 10 espías que dudaron de sí mismos: “Vimos gigantes y éramos como saltamontes delante de nuestros propios ojos, y así éramos delante de ellos”. Cuando se ve pequeño, sin darse cuenta, también proyecta esa imagen al mundo que lo rodea.
