Most of us treat our cars better than our hearts. We take our vehicles for regular services but how often do we take time out to repair the wear & tear of our souls? I believe we all need healing. Here are five reasons why:
1. LIFE IS TOUGH
We all go through difficulties & disappointments & get hurt along the way. People let us down making it tough to trust. Our dreams get dashed leaving us heavy-hearted. But because we love the Lord, we normally just dust ourselves down and carry on, but feeling dry or discouraged, or with a little sadness beneath the surface.
2. YOUR DESTINY
Prov 4:23 says: “…Your heart… determines the course of your life.” It’s not what you know or even who you know, and it’s not your qualifications that decide your destiny. It’s the condition of your heart. If you get self-conscious or insecure, if you worry about what other people think, or even if you’re weighed down with disappointment, it may be holding you back from God’s best.
3. YOUR POTENTIAL
God is great and you were made in His image. So He has extraordinary plans for your life. But Proverbs says that, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” If your confidence has been undermined by the people around you or if your view of yourself has been damaged by circumstances, it will be harder for you to fulfill your full potential.
4. THE ENEMY HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR PAIN
God has a great plan for your life but the devil has a plan too. John 10:10 says that satan seeks to steal, kill & destroy. He tries to derail your destiny by using your hurt to hamper your life. Discouragement, trust issues or lack of confidence are 3 examples of how the enemy uses pain to hinder us. We need to stop him by dealing with hidden hurts that are holding us back.
5. OUR HEARTS LIE
Jeremiah 17:9 says that the biggest problem with the human heart is its propensity for deception: “The heart is deceitful above all things…” The person your heart lies to most often of all is probably you. We think we know ourselves. We think we know what is going on inside. However, even God had to search to find out what’s hidden inside our hearts. We are unaware how old experiences affect our relationships and our lives.
