A Secret to Success

Several years ago, while I was worshipping, the Lord asked me to lay down my dreams. I knew deep within that God was asking me to give up my desires for ministry and to instead set my heart on seeing my husband achieve his dreams.

I had sensed the call of God on my life since my teenage years and ministry was the yearning of my heart. However, the day came when God asked me to give it all up.

I laid down my longings and tried my best to be my husband’s helper. He travels a great deal so I sought to support him in whatever way I could. I’m not saying I always got it right. But for a dedicated season, that was my main ministry priority.

Pattern

Have you noticed a pattern in the callings of Moses, Saul and David? All three of these leaders were serving someone else’s aspirations when their call came.

Moses was working for his father-in-law, David was looking after his dad’s sheep while Saul was searching for his father’s lost donkeys. All three were sowing their lives into someone else’s destiny when God called them to step into their own.

Colossians 3:23 says: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”

Here we are instructed to do everything with all our hearts, not just those things that inspire us! I often hear people say, “I could not really give it my all because my heart was not in it.” I cannot imagine that Moses found shepherding very stimulating. However, he did it diligently.

God Sees

When we serve someone with all our hearts, God sees and takes note. Elisha was a loyal servant to Elijah until the day his master went to be with the Lord. Joshua was faithful to Moses. He even stood and waited half way up a mountain for Moses for 40 days and nights.

I will never forget my husband’s words the year my book, 30 Day Detox for your Soul, was released in America. He said, “I will put my entire international ministry on hold while you launch your book.” I have not met many men who would be willing to do what he did.

Open Door

In the heavens, I am convinced that my sacrifice several years earlier opened the door for me to step into my destiny at the right time. The truth is, I believe serving the aspirations of others is always God’s plan. As I write, I know God is calling me into a deeper level of serving others.

Speaking about Himself, Jesus said in Matthew 20:28, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others and to give His life…”. We are called to do the same. Often that means putting our own priorities to one side in order to serve someone else’s vision with all our soul.

It’s our hearts that determine the course of our lives. Healed for Life will help you to be free from all inner hindrances so that you can fulfil your purpose. If you feel challenged to serve, I have a day dedicated to this subject in 30 Day Detox for your Soul.
